The effects of catchy advertising, or unforgettable jingles really doesn't have an effect on me personally. If I find myself singing a certain jingle for a company, it doesn't compel me to buy the product, just to sing the tune. In some cases I may not even want to buy a certain brand because If I do, I think I'll have the jingle stuck in my head every time I see it, which can get very annoying.
As for the matching of slogans to companies, I found that I got a lot of them, but I got more of the gender or age category ones, like companies and such that promote products for teenagers, or males in general.
I also think I'm not at all impervious to advertising, I think that if I see a commercial or something for a product, and it genuinely looks very interesting, I'll look it up, or go buy it. I definitely think that I'm less coaxed by advertising than some, but I'm definitely not immune to it. If a company makes their product out to be just THAT good, than I may end up buying it. It's all about how they present it to ME. I think different thinks are appealing than other people, so if it has something I like, than I'm interested, pretty simple.

A certain brand/company I've been loyal too for a while has been Virgin Mobile. The past two cell phones I've had, have been using this companies services. I think the main reason I started using it, was because it was the "hip" company, that used advertisements that appealed more to young teens then adults. Also the phones I got were easy to setup and start to use with Virgin Mobile, and I've just stuck with them ever since.
Another one could be Axe body spray. I think there's really only two reasons I've stuck with this company and that's 1) the amazing commercials they put out and 2)the stuff actually smells pretty good. I've also been told by people that I smell good when I wear it so that helps too I guess.
Lastly, I guess, tying in with the first thing is my cell phones have also been Motorola. MY first one was a RAZR, and the current one is a KRZR. I think the only reason I've stuck with Motorola, is because they happen to make cool looking phones, and since I've never had any other type of cell phone, I can't say they function better than others. The phones work for me, and have cool names so I guess that's all that counts.
3 things that I think I use that I don't stick to a certain brand would be soda, soap, and TVs. Soda because I find Pepsi and Coca Cola taste pretty much the same so I don't really care which one I get. Soap because again, they all function and look the same so, I couldn't really tell the difference either way. And TVs because again, all TVs, generally(Sony, Samsung, Toshiba etc.) all generally work the same, and have the same quality, with exceptions.
I think if you're loyal to a brand because you like it best, then that's just fine. There's no reason to say try a different cell phone just because, if you're happy with yours, than that's all that counts.

Our look at advertising, and product placement these last two weeks has made me much more aware of the advertisements around me. After realizing in class advertisements are literally everywhere I find myself randomly looking for advertisements around where I don't think I'll see any, and I'll see them. This class has so far, made me realize, more than anything, that advertisements are literally, everywhere.
As far as the effectiveness of product placement as apposed to actual commercials, I'd say that product placement is much more effective than commercials because after watching enough commercials, they get very annoying and can even put you off the product. Product placement seems to make these super unrealistic movies, more real with products we recognize in them. Seeing James Bond with an Omega watch may make him seem a little more normal and unexciting, but it's also James Bond, and if you wanted to be like him, an Omega Watch is something you can actually buy and own. Seeing real products in movies also helps viewers connect to the film. By adding in a LG Cell Phone, or a Honda Civic, in a movie, moviegoers see that and say "Hey I have those, this character is much easier to connect to now." Maybe not exact thought but subconsciously is really does help.

Before I came into this class, I knew very little of Media. I knew it had to do with movies, music, TV and radio, but I wasn't sure the broad spectrum that media entailed. I knew that advertisements and commercials were forms of media.
I'd like to learn a few things about media. What it covers, i.e how much fits under the subject of media, how it affects daily life, how much companies pay to get themselves portrayed positively by certain mediums, and who controls media. I'd also like to know about any new forms of media that will be coming out, like beyond TV, magazines, billboards etc.
What I've learned this week in media class is that many companies will pay alot of money to get there products into media. I've also learned just how many advertisements are in movies, like cars, drinks, watches, and other random things that I never even noticed in movies/TV. The biggest thing I've learned so far is the evolution of media, like how advertisements weren't always so invasive/obvious, and how advertisements went from little 5 word messages in a newspaper, to huge billboards 50 feet in the air.
